Just one year ago, a team of incredible, patient, talented artists and friends joined me to make my mini-series: The Real Ex-Wives of Pittsburgh. It may be teeny and it may be quirky, we may have had no money and very little time, but I think there is a fair amount of magic in the weird little show that we made together.
If you feel like strolling down nostalgia road with me, all 6 episodes of the series are featured on the old comedy YouTube channel, The Adolescent Hour with Kayla and Steven. The series was directed by love-of-my-life Amy Wooler, who I would trust with my life and who I have trusted with many of my babies. It was shot and edited by Anthony Morrison, who had my back through a long, happy year of guerilla, no-budget comedy making. Production design by one of the most aesthetically RAD people I know, Becca Smith. Handling the rest of the aesthetics, with incredible intricacy for a zero budget project, was our costume designer, Theo Campbell. We look amazing because Theo is amazing. Period. Assistant direction and managing of my sanity were handled by my soul sister, Leenie Baker. Shane Jordan and Kieran Peleaux were the token men onscreen, always sweet and silly and sometimes so truthful that it makes you hurt in the best possible way. The main cast was made up Reilly Galvin, Ben McClymont, and Claire Sabatine. These co-wives of mine, they are so skillful and genuine and hilarious, they make me snort and tear up and feel a warmth resonating from my core. I love all of these people, which is probably pretty obvious.
With the whirlwind of graduation, this project sometimes slips through the cracks of my cluttered mind when I think of senior year. But I am near overcome with happiness when I remember the time that I spent with this crew, every single time. I learned so much through this project. I laughed so much. I loved so much, loved so many people, and understood how lucky I am to have them in my life. They’re all amazing. On-camera, behind-camera, and off-camera/set/whatever.
They will always own a cozy corner of my heart <3
